Articles and Publications

While an employee of Granitar, I wrote a white paper about Globalization and Localization.

I wrote an article about developing programs using the MacOS API for Lotus Notes that appeared in the September 1996 issue of MacTech Magazine.

This document is based on the speaker notes from a talk that I gave at Lotus in December 1995 on the Lotus Notes API, with emphasis on using the MacOS version of Lotus Notes Release 4.

The original document was hosted on www.lotus.com, but was removed long ago. The above link is to my archived copy. The document is full of links to other web sites, many of which may no longer be valid.

PORTING BETWEEN DISSIMILAR PLATFORMS

This article was written in 1990, and was originally published in March 1991 in Developer's Insight. At the time that I wrote it, I thought a lot about the issues of porting between operating systems such as Windows 3.1, MS DOS, and Macintosh. This was a time before Windows NT. It was a time when people were still doing a lot of development for MS DOS. It was a time when few people took palm top computing seriously, and pen computing was only a very expensive niche. Obviously this was also before the Web or Java.

Take a look, and give a little consideration to my thoughts on this topic. And keep in mind that this is a flashback to the perspecitve of February 1990.

In the summer of 1996, I developed a custom FTP client for the MIT IS group that enables the university's 4000 Macintosh users to install software directly from the internet. As part of the project, I developed a web site to document the project.
