To Whom It May Concern:
I was Rick Gansler's manager during his first contract at DEC. He made performace enhancements and bug fixes to the code base for which I was responsible. I was very pleased with Rick's ability to quickly learn the project architecture and with the robustness of the code that he wrote.
Rick's organizational skills, which enabled him to schedule his own time and prioritize his tasks, are part of what makes him a good consultant. He began his contract after the project had begun, and finished when the project was ready to ship. He was able to integrate well into the development team, and view the project from the perspective of the team managers.
During his second contact at DEC, Rick worked on the QA side of the group rather than in development. His knowledge of the product and of its architecture enabled him to find a large number of bugs, some of them very serious. His knowledge of general Macintosh interface issues was also of importance to us. Although I was not his manager during the QA contract, some of the bugs that he found were in program areas for which I am responsible.
I highly recommend Rick Gansler for any software engineering project.
Sincerely,
John Lanoue
