To whom it may concern,

I was the senior engineer for the Japanese version of Lotus 1-2-3 for Macintosh, and was Richard Gansler's immediate supervisor.

Mr. Gansler's responsibilities included porting Lotus' Japanese support from the existing Windows and CUI products to the Macintosh code base. The Japanese changes were from diverse sources, and included significant deviations from the standard file format, as well as new Asia specific features. Mr. Gansler brought the appropriate modifications to the Macintosh product to allow users to preserve their existing work when importing files from other versions of Lotus 1-2-3. He fully commented and documented all of his changes.

Due to Mr. Gansler's diligence in his work, the Japanese product enjoyed positive critical acceptance in the market.
